Cedar Fencing
We offer semi-transparent stains on cedar fencing, decks and other structures. A quality oil based semi-transparent stain will penetrate the wood keeping water damage and mildew growth at bay. Most coloured semi-transparent stains also offer UV protection to prevent cedar from turning grey. We always use a moisture meter to ensure the moisture content in the wood is at an appropriate level before application. Typically stain will be applied by sprayer and then back brushed to work it into the wood.
Wood Refinishing
Refinishing is a much more time consuming process than simply re-staining a surface. The existing finish is removed by chemical stripping and/or scraping & sanding. Sun damaged, water damaged and weathered areas are removed and the quality bare wood beneath the surface is revealed. A new finish is then applied. This process is delicate, time consuming but the reward is a final product that looks brand new. We offer this service to specialty custom features as seen to the left as well certain styles of decks, fences and other wood surfaces.
Deck Staining
As seen to the right, a good quality solid stain offers the appearance of a paint while penetrating deep into the wood as opposed to sitting on the surface like a paint does. The left features a deck that had the previous coating completely sanded out so the bare wood underneath was exposed and a new oil based semi-transparent stain could be applied. Whether using a semi-transparent or solid stain, deck maintenance is a regular job in our wet and cold climate. We like to clean with a good pressure wash, sand and scrape away any failing coating and then apply a quality solid stain. Solid-stains stay looking good for longer in comparison to semi-transparent stains, but prevent the natural beauty of the wood grain from showing through.
